ESSIE PEARL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

This fund is dedicated to the late grandmother of our founder, Jamella Smith. Essie, affectionately known as "Pearl" was a hardworking mother of 15 children. She planted her roots in Granville County, where she is buried today. The ESSIE PEARL SMITH FUND houses three separate college scholarships: HERMAN COZART SCHOLARSHIP ($1,000), THE KEVIN HOOKER SR. SCHOLARSHIP ($500), AND THE JAMES T. WALL SCHOLARSHIP($250). These scholarships are purposed for high-school seniors who have been accepted into a College or University. Our hope is that the scholarship assists the student in any way possible because college comes with its' financial hardships.

Located in Granville County, the birthplace of countless memories for Essie, this fund symbolizes the deep roots she planted in her community. Her final resting place in Granville County serves as a poignant reminder of her lasting impact on those around her.
